Pretty Soldier Wars A.D. 2048 Review [ Review ]
Review posted by baby arm Sun 06 Jan 2008, 3:29 AM
Our old pal Section8 had his first "H-game" experience involving Pretty Soldier Wars A.D. 2048, a turn-based tactical title with a twist. And he survived to tell the (NSFW) tale.

Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power [ Review ]
Review posted by YourConscience Wed 14 Nov 2007, 8:55 AM

Here we go with yet another review, this time of Galacitc Assault: Prisoner of Power. It can be described as a Battle Isle clone with 3D graphics and a tie-in with a very interesting book (Prisoner of Power). But is it any good?

Concludingly I have to say that this is a nice little game, but mostly because the turn-based hexagonal style of gameplay is just nearly unkillable.

Looks good, doesn't it? But there are other pieces in the review that don't:

Given that it's nothing more than a simple hex-based wargame with rather small maps and few different units, it's really embarrassing to have to suffer through the long loading times only due to the overvalued visuals.

So not all is well with this title, unfortunately. And I say unfortunately, because the idea of making a turn-based game nowadays should be praised, perhaps even more than the equally good idea of taking a non-western and non-asian story background, for a change. Therefore, if this title isn't a hit, publishers will continue to think that turn-based has no future, ignoring the fact that it's perhaps just the execution that's lacking recently.

Armageddon Empires Review [ Review ]
Review posted by Astromarine Tue 13 Nov 2007, 3:30 AM
Sometimes I get into arguments with people about independent games. Some of my friends point out that most seem to be cheap clones of old puzzle games, and those that aren't are crappy looking entries to the usual genres, where they get kicked in the pants by their more professional competitors. I have to carefully explain to people that the reason these games should exist is to create a sense of community, keeping alive the idea that making games shouldn't be the exclusive domain of multimillion dollar corporations. That sometimes, some guy will come out of nowhere, look at what is possible, get motivated, and come up with a game that is original, enjoyable, and fun. The trouble, of course, is finding his game. Luckily, I got sent this one to review, saving me the trouble.

Lost Empire Review [ Review ]
Review posted by YourConscience Sun 07 Oct 2007, 9:17 AM

In case you were wondering what this game called Lost Empire, supposedly a 4X space conquering game, is all about, then read our detailed review or just jump to the end to read the conclusions. One of the nicer points about this game is something most other games of this sort horrbly fail at, namely a sensible diplomacy screen:

It lists several factors that define your current relationship to an other player and it makes it very easy to grasp why things are improving or worsening. After all the failed attempts to reduce micromanagement this is finally a part where in my opinion the creators of the game were successful. In fact, I think this is the best diplomatic screen I have seen to date.

the nice diplomacy screen

However, not all is well with this game, so read on here and tell us your opinion!

Sins of a Solar Empire Beta Impressions [ Preview ]

After realizing a few days ago that Totalgaming subscribers (which I am) still had access to Beta 1 of Sins of a Solar Empire if they pre-ordered, I decided to give the game a try. After getting sucked in until 5 am, going to bed only to prevent, ahem, marital issues, I thought I'd write about what I thought about the game so far.
